Hello...
I looking for solution to drive 6 stepper motors. I was looking to 7I43 but seems that this can drive only 4 steppers?
Some suggestion how to configure that? (is it PCI based card the only solution?)

The SVST_4_12 firmware can drive 12 steppers on the second port.I looking for solution to drive 6 stepper motors. I was looking to 7I43 but seems that this can drive only 4 steppers?

I fell stupid.
I search what SVST mean but can't find what you are talking about.
Do you mean just software based stepper and two LPT ports?
If that's true I'm in doubt as this should control big 5 axis gantry.
And have Y1, Y2, X, Z, A, B axis. The machine is big one and should got reasonable step rate to be usable. (6m x 3m x 1m travel)

SVST4_12 is the name of a HostMot2 firmware configuration (bit file)with 4 servo channels (PWM out and encoder in) and 12 hardware stepgenerators.
Not sure if this is supplied with LinuxCNC or not but I can build one if needed

SVST4_12.BIT is a firmware for the Mesa 7i43 that supports 12 stepgens on one of the 7i43 ports (leaving the other 24 IO pins free to do other things.

No. I thought this was a Mesa/Hosmot2 thread?Do you mean just software based stepper and two LPT ports?

Ok thanks.
I don't have hardware yet and just search what I really needed.
So 7i43 can have up to 12 steppers and is supported by LinuxCNC (EMC2)
If true then I need to order one....

have a look at the 5i25 - 7i76 plug-and-go kit too, that supports 6 steppers + IO + spindle control.

I think you can probably have 24 with a stepper-only firmwareSo 7i43 can have up to 12 steppers and is supported by LinuxCNC (EMC2)

in 7i78 man is stated
"The 7I76 provides five channels of step/dir interface with buffered 5V differential
signals. The differential signals allows reliable signal transmission in noisy environments.
If single ended drive is required, a single output of the differential pair may be used."
so only 5 channels.
But now I have doubt to use 7i43 or 5i25.
Maybe the PCI port is easier to find on new boards as EPP is harder to find.. And price of boards is same.

you can add 2 7i76 stepper addon cards to the 5i25 their is a second connector on the 5i25 edge , it would need bringing out to a socket
you need to add all functions you need to a list , steppers , encoders , spindle , switches etc , and then find the best fit to your requirements
either a 5i25 and 2 7i76 or look at the 5i20 and 7i47 or 7i47s combination
the 7i43 will give you 2 x 24 pins only
