I'm installing a wj200 after my huanyang blew up. I am wondering what kind of changes need to be made in linuxcnc to make it work and what are the settings on the drive that are important to a correct installation. Not much info out there for the hitachi and I'm new to working with vfd's and a little gun shy.

Are you controlling with analogue voltage or modbus?
In the former case, you will wire up pretty-much identically. If modbus, then you need to change the HAL component and the HAL pins will all change too.

Hmmm. Is there any reason to use modbus? analogue works fine for me.

You might get more info back, such as spindle current and bus voltage.
However, analogue is more realtime.

analogue will do it for now. I'm just getting ready to get back into this. I am planning on hooking the shield to the same ground that the motor and vfd use with no termination at the motor end.....is this best? How do I use the driver that I have read about linuxcnc already has loaded...do I need to load it or is is called up in the config files??

You shouldn't need to change anything at all in the software. Just wire the new VFD exactly the same way as the old VFD.

Awesome. How about the drive settings....should I just mimick what was done with the HY or are there more things to be concerned with. I just want to get the machine back online now and worry about the fancy stuff later...I'm just apprehensive after blowing the hy. I've got an ac reactor on the way also.
edit: also, should the motor be run in constant torque mode for a router?

I imagine the manual will take you through the setup? It helps if you have nameplate data from the motor, though
(Maybe write that in the manual)

Yeah I've been working through it. I didn't know how many poles the spindle was so I used 4 and it seems to be running as it should. I'll get the analogue working tomorrow.

You can figure out the pole count from the rated speed @ frequency.
3000 rpm @ 50 hz = 2 pole, 1500 rpm @ 50 Hz = 4 pole. etc.
