Mesa 7i96S with Huanyang VFD (RS485) was created by oddname
Well as the topic states I would like to use my VFD with my Mesa 7i96S but over RS485 and not the analog way.
It is normally fairly simple but I would like to use the onboard RS485 of the Mesa. Not really sure where to start, but please correct me or
expand my guessing:
1: enable modbus plugin for linuxcnc, (Is it allready included on live-usb installer version etc?)
2: Flash the right firmware on the mesa, (delivered one doesnt cut it).
3: create hal with custom info like baudrate etc.
4: "use" and be happy.
Is this somewhat correct, and if please expand
And yes, I am pretty new with linuxcnc. My old router has a version pre-name change

To use the on card RS-485 interface you need to use mesa-modbus.
This does not use the modbus plugin. Not sure if this has been tried
with Huanyang VFDs.

This is a little bit off-topic, but LinuxCNC is in my opinion not as easy to start with as some of the other software available. However there are plenty of examples available for analog vfd controlling, you can easily find the correct bitfile on the mesa website and configure your machine with the PNCconf tool pretty much working out of the box.
