I haven't moderated any for quite some time, and the needing-moderation slot seems empty.

You have to wait for a moderator to approve your first post before it shows up on the forum. This is because of spammers.

Yes, first post of a new forum member is moderated. I've been checking - usually several times a day. The spammers seem to have slowed down a little lately - I was rejecting more when we first started this. Not too many first time posters - a few a week I guess.

TheBigLebowski: nothing of yours will be moderated since you show to have 6 posts already - it's only the first post after signing up to the forum. I don't know what might prevent you making a thread. Do you get an error message or something?

That can also be caused by the internet service providers that use heavy caching to save bandwidth, so it takes a while to pull in the new pages.
