I was a manual machinist for @ 15 years before I got into
setting up & programming a 60/30 4 axes Fadal 88 in the
mid 90's.
Since then have done close to a dozen different controls.
Still a manual guy at heart because thats what I have at
my home shop till about 5 years ago I started on my little
home built cnc router with linuxcnc.

I wanted to build a homebuilt plane, but didn't have a garage. >> Figured I could get started working on the inner city balcony, making the instrument panel . Decided I wanted to integrate a bunch of gauges into an integrated engine display like the old 737...
... figured I needed a CNC router to make the housing. Had a chinese mini lathe, so learnt CNC by converting that with TurboCNC.
Somewhere along the way I bought a Mustang II kitplane kit, and moved to a house with a garage. Never built the plane. Never finished the CNC Router...
www.cnczone.com/forums/benchtop-machines...um-cutting-mill.html
Then I got a Deckel engraver frame from the scrappy for €20, and bodged a serline ER16 spindle onto it, as my "Mill". I was going to CNC it, but then a MAHO caught my eye.
Never made the engine gauges. Sold the plane kit, but have a basement full of Maho mill, lathe, Clarkson tool grinder, etc and half finished CNC projects.

I have long had a fascination with electronics, and with the process of machining, though i knew far more about electronics than machining. i found some cheap Chinese laser/mill CNC routers, and still have one i use to laser burn a logo onto cabinetry that my father and i build for the carpentry company we run.
I have wanted a CNC for both laser burning, and routing designs into wood (signs, plaques, etc). first, i thought a GRBL machine would get me there, but as i dove deeper into it, i thought differently. i then came across a used 48" by 48", by 5" in Craigslist, though it did not have a controller. i discovered LinuxCNC, and that brings me close to up-to-date. my machine is functioning better than i thought it ever would. now i just have to get better at CAD/CAM to really make the machine work great.

I was thinking about getting a new manual mill, wehen a friend needed to get rid of a machining center he bought from his employer. He has it in another friends shed for storage till the shed got sold.
I learned a lot the last years and still are learning.
cheers Patrick

I came to new job and there was mechanic part of self made CNC with clear mach3. I tried to configure it but it had big latency. So I started to look for some new CNC program. I found linuxcnc and got in touch with linux OS at first time. On this forum I got very good support for that. After that time I configured linuxcnc on few machines. I set on one machine MESA with step/dir and now build one machine with analog command.
My speciality at university was automation and freaquency converters but we studied nothing about servodrives and stepper motors. This forum helped me GREAT!
