I think i saw something on youtube yesterday about Linux desktop passing 5% and since about 3-4 weeks ago it was at 3%, that is huge, and personally, i am not looking forward to it getting over 20 or 30% as so will the malware and other s#it for it, and developers are dropping like flies every day due to burnout and lack of finances and ... being p.o. at microshaft misusing github and Linux code crammed into windows and .... to long list.

I think that it will be the computer suppliers that will dictate the Desktop uptake. The average Joe will want Windows, the Mac users are dedicated to Apple, or whatever Apple throws at them.
People will just want a turnkey solution, or if they build their own PC what they are comfortable with.
I would posit a guess that the uptake in people connecting to the internet via phones or tablets is on the increase..........it would appear the easiest route to rot your brain with social media.

Apparently the latest trend on TikTok is their AI becoming sentient and having a soul. So I really don't have a lot of hope. I'm pretty sure it would the same group that use mediums, astrology, talk to spirits and jump on the "Latest Thing".

I'm so happy to be a grumpy old man in this day & age.

the main argument against windows is that it doesn't run LinuxCNC :)

Thank God for that, I could just imagine what B.S. windows would add to it.

People will just want a turnkey solution,...

This is what really pisses me off, Linux is the turnkey solution, not windows.
This my main PC has Ryzen 7 7700, RX6800, 96GB RAM, etc, i install Linux in about 3 minutes, reboot and use the PC as everything works.
For any windoze that would be at least 40 minutes to 2 hours for windows, another hour or two for drivers with many reboots, and then software for ... everything!
I play occasionally Doom Eternal on Steam, yet no drivers are required!!! 120 FPS @ 3440X1440 with RT on.
Edit:
Not addressed at you, unknown, addressed at the internet as a whole as everyone on the net keeps repeating that same phrase. Sorry i just noticed it might come as personal, it is not.

No i am not streaming, but i did try screen recording and OBS was mad at me for using such a big screen so it recorded just 1/4 of it! :)
I do not think it is worth streaming as:
1. i am old so reflexes are not what they were 30 years ago
2. i play using a Logitech MX3 Master wireless mouse, any gamer would cringe at this as it is big and heavy and slow (but i do have big hands so it fits nicely)
3. i have 43 hours of play time in over 4 years
4. takes more than once to finish some levels on Nightmare difficulty
5. helps a lot with sweating ! :)

I might do a shop tour video soon, just need to kick myself in the behind and do it.
P.S.
Just in case you missed the PC build topic, i got those 96GB of DDR5 5200 RAM for 146 Euro, where the normal price is above 400 Euro, new with warranty. Probably a typo instead of 416, but i ain't complaining! :)
