Looking for freelancer to finish retrofit of K2 router was created by ArthurG
I hired someone last year to retrofit our K2 (KG5050) router after the K2 control board was fried. The primary goal (besides replacing the control electronics) was for it to be able to run LinuxCNC. After many false starts and wrong decisions made in the components to be used, and many, many hours spent wiring and re-wiring and testing things, it turned out that this project was too much for the young man I hired. He ultimately gave up after he failed to figure out the tuning of the servos/axes.
I have a computer programming background but I know very little about the world of electrical engineering and am hoping to find someone who can finish off the project - which according to the young man I hired, is just the tuning of the motors/axes, but which I suspect might require a bit more.
Ideally, I'd like to find someone local (we're based in Ventura, CA) but the control PC *is* setup with remote desktop access and a webcam on the table, so if you're confident you could do it remotely, with me on hand to E-stop/reset the machine as needed, I'd be okay with that option.

Well, to late, but no need for any of that fuss.
We need as much info as possible for the machine, motors, drives, controllers, whatever else, and a lot of pictures of the wiring and setup.
From you picture it seems like brushed servo motors, but i can not see if they have tachos, if they do that would make them analog servo, if not then most probably position controlled with probably step/dir signals or if older with up/down control or plain quadrature.
See, to much assumptions, so more pictures.
For analog servo, you can use this howto and with a bit of time and effort have the machine tuned pretty fast:

The link above will not work for any other type of control, only analog with Mesa boards, although it works with other controllers also.

Thank you for the quick reply.
We think the motors are DAE HWA D860-30B7 TC-9, but the manufacturer, K2, went out of business right after we bought the router, back in 2014, and we never received any documentation for it.
Other components:
Control: MESA 7i95T
Servo Amplifiers: Pico Systems PWM Servo Amplifiers
Encoders: Same Sky AMT113S-V
VFD: Delta VFD037C23A
Spindle: HSD Model ES 915A 2P H1
I've tried read and understand your guide many times before (as our previous consultant sent me it when he gave up on the tuning) but it's clearly meant for someone with deeper familiarity with the terminology than I have.
For example, when you say "Make sure you have 5V logic power, Vin and Vfield, or at least Vin with the jumper set for Vfield. Anything from 8 to 28V can be used." I have no idea how I'm supposed to do that.
Or shortly after that: "Try to get the scaling right for the encoders if you have info on the /encoder counts/lead screw pitch/reduction ratio/belt pulley teeth etc. Any change of the scale on a tuned axis will mess up the tuning, depending on how much it changed." How do I "get the scaling right", what am I checking or changing to make sure the scaling is right?
These are only two examples - your guide is clearly a wonderful aid for people with a deeper understanding of these systems and processes than I have, but it is well beyond my ability to utilize it without first spending many many hours of technical learning to get to the level where I can understand and follow the guide. This is why I would much rather hire an expert - someone who can either utilize your guide, or knows their way around these systems well enough to finish the retrofit without any guides.

Can you find anyone near you that knows a bit about wiring?
That would be very helpful.
