I upgraded DELL #1 to Ubuntu 8.04 EMC2.4.7 piece of cake! Then I upgraded DELL#2 which drives the mill
for some reason the mouse is lurching about, completely unusable. Any idea as how to fix this problem?

One difference between Dell#1 and Dell#2 Dell#1 has a duel boot with Ubuntu 8.04 and
Ubuntu 10.04 (although I'm not using 10.04) is it possible that this is why Dell #2 works correctly?

Hi

Can't tell from what you say if you have just upgraded to LinuxCNC 2.4.7 from a fully functioning installation, which can't have any effect on the mouse, or whether you have installed 8.04 and upgraded together, in which case the problem would be with 8.04 not the LinuxCNC upgrade.

We don't know what type or make of mouse you have, both 8.04 and 10.04 have caused a lot of problems with both PS2 and USB mice, probably in part down to its its generated xorg.conf (8.04) and automatic mouse / keyboard / monitor detection (10.04) respectively.

My USB mouse sometimes ceases working completely with 10.04 but comes back again if I unplug and re-plug it in.

This thread suggests one solution for 8.04,
adventuresinswitching.blogspot.com/2008/...e-on-ubuntu-804.html
and there are other references to the problem you describe specifically,
but you are going to have to search under ubuntu forums with your specific problem, hardware etc to narrow down from there, if that does not assist.

regards

Thanks for the info I will try some of the methods in the link

The problem is defiantly associated with the upgrade to 2.4.7
all mice worked before with 2.3. I have several USB mice
Dell, Microsoft and a generic all use to work.

Thanks
