the update procedure is painless with an internet connection Ken .
if you have available another pc in the internet , i can guide you through it , perhaps using skype chat etc
just a thought

cncbasher,
Thanks for the offer.
I tried to install my broadband USB on the PC but in the process, Ubuntu asked for the ubuntu installation CD but as my machine is a bare one, i.e. without hard drive & CD drive & I installed it with a pendrive... so I got lost in that & abort the broadband installation...
I need to run the machine for a week or 2, I'll get on to the upgrade after that.
Regards
Ken

There is nothing to go wrong really, except you!
If you are presented with an option you don't understand and choose the wrong one or get an error and try to 'fix' it, then things could get screwed up badly.
I was just trying to be ultra safe and cover my own back
regards

Your option sounds like a lot can go wrong...

ArcEye,
Thanks for the confident booster!
It is late night here & I've been working hard labour the whole day
Will give it a go tomorrow night about this time.
Btw, how do I change directory in the terminal? Is the command similar to DOS?
Regards

Ken,
Open the Getting Started manual and go to the Linux FAQ sections for a short tutorial on terminal commands.

Hi Arceye, John,
Looked up some tutorial & managed to find the directory & exactly as you said & synaptic installer flashes "broke dependency" & sugested fixing it via "broken filter" & without actually knowing what I did & without a clue that anything had been fixed, I casually double click my EMC2 shortcut & viola, the Axis screen now display "AXIS 2.4.6" looks like it worked magically...
Still don't know if the installation is a success... Will see...
