Ubuntu 12.10 and EMC was created by Ford
I've got a Linux dual boot machine I want to use with EMC. It already has Ubuntu 12.10 installed and configured. I'm trying to evaluate what I need to do to use this machine on the engraver.
So what do I need to do?

Hi
Unfortunately you need to install the Live CD based upon Ubuntu 10.04 to actually cut metal
At present there are no realtime kernels in the 3.x.x range that 12.10 uses.

I appreciate the response. I'm considering my options.
Does 10.04 allow for a dual boot configuration? The 10.04 disc will not boot the ISO with 12.10 on the system. I presume I must somehow erase the 12.10 from the system and then install 10.04. The trouble is, I'm not able to figure out how that is done. Booting Ubuntu 12.10 does not appear to have an uninstall option. And I cannot see the Linux partition from the windows partition to erase the contents of the partition.
sigh...
Is having a 12.10 machine a fatal problem?

I have a new laptop that would not boot 10.04 for the same reasons and had to install 12.04 to get the ethernet and sound working.
This is probably why 12.10 was installed and unfortunately this is the end of the story.
You can run a simulator but not a realtime system.

There is no connection between versions and whether you can dual - triple - quadruple boot. You can dual boot with any linux distro.Does 10.04 allow for a dual boot configuration?
It doesn't matter what is installed on the computer. If the Live CD based upon 10.04 will not boot, it is not because 12.10 is installed, it is because your hardware is too new and not supported in that kernel. The 10.04 disc will not boot the ISO with 12.10 on the system.

Problem resolved.
The ISO disk didn't burn right. It wouldn't load so on a hunch I burned a new CD. Bingo!
So now I have a triple boot system. Win XP, Linux 12.10, and Linus 10.04. What I didn't like is that the partition selection screen only allowed me to partition the Win XP portion. So I had to carve up the hard drive a bit different than I'd have liked, but it does work.
Thanks for the help.

Glad it was that simple, there are computers that will no longer run the 10.04 Live CD.
Someone with a wry sense of humour at Ubuntu decided to have a default of 'overwrite Windoze' and everything else
You can divide the HDD and partition it any way you want if you use 'Manual Mode'What I didn't like is that the partition selection screen only allowed me to partition the Win XP portion.
