hostmot2-firmware missing? was created by gandalf
Hi,
I successfully compiled LinuxCNC from git branch rtos-integration-preview3 on debian and the kernel 2.6.32.20 and xenomai 2.6.2.1.
I want to test this system with mesa 5i25 and 7i76 board.
After copy 5i25 xml files on /lib/firmware/hm2/5i25 I get errors on pncconf and no way to select 7i76 board.
I think that other files related to hostmot2-firmware are still missing.
What is the correct procedure to install hostmot2-firmware starting from git?

AFAIK only the xml files that pncconf uses are missing (the pin files are available but only used as a human readable pin list)

Did you download and install these xml files?

www.linuxcnc.org/media/kunena/attachment...y/files/5i25_xml.zip

In the same pncconf thread with the above xml files there's a mention of permission problems so make sure the xml files are there(in /lib/firmware/hm2/5i25, and world readable

Yes I putted the xml in the correct directory and I setted 777 (to be pretty sure) and it permit me to select 5i25 but when I have to choose the configuration (7i76) it does not permit to select nothing.
Now I can't take the snapshot but basically it does not show the 5i25's configurations even if it permit to select just 5i25 on the first step wizard.

Strange, there are obviously people using pncconf with the 5I25/7I76 successfully. Maybe you could ask on the pncconf forum. Maybe some minor usage error or setup operation thats been missed.

Let me explain, it works well using the LinuxCNC ubuntu distribution.
I'm testing also a LinuxCNC compiled myself from git and Xenomai.
After "make install" the directory /lib/firmware/hm2 is missing and then I created it to copy 5i25 xml files.
PnCConf let me choose just 5i25 (this is OK) after that I get an error and I can not select any firmware for select 7i76.
This is why there is the possibility that something is missing or maybe I did a mistake.
Take a look to the screenshot.

if its not a simple file access problem
(can you do a cat /lib/firmware/hm2/5i25/7i76x2.xml as a normal user?), I really have no idea,.

But, this is a pncconf issue, nothing specifically to do with firmware
so probably should be asked in the pncconf section

hm2-eth is built into LinuxCNC (but only the uspace version of LinuxCNC)

If you mean the iso, no it will not, the stretch version works.
