LinuxCNC for Ubuntu 13.04? was created by DavidTangye
I have upgraded a machine from Ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04. It already has linuxcnc 1:2.5.2.169 installed. Here's hoping this works with 13.04. Do you know of any issues?
When will you have a release for 13.04?
When will you have a release for 13.04?

Hi
Are you talking about a simulator install?
There is no realtime kernel for 12.10 or 13.04 unless you built your own.
At present you can run 12.10 with realtime if you use the experimental Xenomai kernel, it is intended for 12.04 but runs on 12.10
There won't be one, the next release is looking to be based on 12.04LTS, the odd number releases don't normally have a LTS version, so the one after that, many years ahead, would probably be 14.04 if
they stick with Ubuntu.

Is it possible that LinuxCNC may move away from Ubuntu?

The current push with the project is to have software that is independent of the distribution.
The developers are trying to develop a Linuxcnc which can be installed on one of several real time kernels, over various flavours of linux.
This has obvious advantages, a chief one being that they no longer have to maintain a complete distro installation, just the linuxcnc bits.
That is after all what nearly every other software project does.
Ubuntu is a quite user friendly distribution for beginners, which is why it was originally chosen.
If the plans work out, you should be able to install linuxcnc on any distribution, for which a suitable realtime kernel is available, that will include but not be limited to Ubuntu.
Very much work in progress, as always the hardest bit will be not be getting it to run, but packaging it so that people with no in depth knowledge of linux can use it.
Don't hold your breath, but it seems to be getting closer to fruition, due to the hard work being put in for nothing by the key players in the development team

That is great - and, yes, much hard work, I bet. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
