No problem, good things come to those who wait.

It appears as though I got it to work. The three files affecting me didn't like it when the "owner" was "srt", so I did a sudo make setuid again, and it made the owner "root" and group "srt" and it is working now. The .gvfs file must be something for the operating system I take it? Reason I say this is because I did "sudo chown -R srt:srt /home/srt/linuxcnc-dev and it worked with out issue.

At least now I know what I need to do to fix my other machine that I originally posted about and assumed was working properly.

Thanks

Rick

Glad it sorted out

There is weirdness and then there are UNIX permissions / groups / users / owners !
Never easy.

I would suspect that .gvfs is connected to 'gnome virtual file system', but I don't have it in my home dir, it may be an orphan from something you had installed previously
