Install on Gigiabyte H81M-S2PH was created by GPtech
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to install linuxcnc with this motherboard Gigiabyte H81M-S2PH (which has a built in LPT and COM ports) using a Intel G3220 processor and 4gb of Ram.
I can get the LiveCD to boot to the desktop but as soon as I click on anything the screen goes to the "Log In" screen and I can't get back to the desktop.
I've tried the LiveCD on a laptop and it works fine.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Hi

That is extremely weird, because there is no log in screen on the live CD.

The only thing I can think of immediately, is this is some strange UEFI thing, because it detects the booting of an unsigned OS

Go into BIOS and disable secure boot and UEFI completely if you can and try again

Hi, yes I've already done that. All UEFI has been changed to Legacy.

The only thing I haven't done is to remove one of the 2gb Ram sticks.
I might try that tomorrow as it has burned me out a bit today trying to get it to work.

Thanks,
Grant.

Hi, I tried it with just 2gb of ram but it made no difference.
I also burnt a cd using infrarecorder and imgburn, with verified burn after, and MD5 verified.
Here is a youtube video of what happens.

I really want to get linuxcnc installed on this pc
Thanks.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM! :woohoo:

I was just about to give up but I thought I would download the 10.04 live cd without linuxcnc to see what that did. Low and behold it did exactly the same thing that the linuxcnc disk did.

I found out that the username on the livecd is "ubuntu" and password is blank. This would bring me back to the desktop, as soon as I clicked the left mouse button, boom, back to the log in screen. Hmmm.

Then it occurred to me that whenever I clicked the lmb the screen would go blank and I would be back at the login screen.
So, I swapped out my Logitech G300 mouse for a Logitech M90 and no more problem.

I'm currently trying to install so we'll see if I have anymore hiccups.

Ok, I now have Linuxcnc installed.
You must install using the VGA monitor port and a basic mouse or at least not the Logitech G300 mouse.

This mouse has a known issue, here is the fix
ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=184904...1424355#post11424355
I now have the mouse working correctly.

My latency test is 4078 for servo and 6319 for base.

Hope this helps anyone else that is going to use this motherboard.

Well done for persisting, I have never seen that happen, some peculiar interaction between your mouse and gdm or whatever.

I seldom if ever run the Live Cd itself, just install straight away and was not even aware that there was a password (of sorts)
