Create a file called /etc/apt/sources.list.d/linux was created by captain chaos
Hi
I have a spare old computer and decided to put it to use as a trial 12.04 precise with LinuxCNC 2.6.
I can't get around "Create a file called /etc/apt/sources.list.d/linuxcnc.list." I've tried the followingterminal just hangs
andpermission denied
I'm not reel good at this Linux thing and can't figure out how to get root permissions.
After a lot of 'DuckDuckGoing' all I could find was this stackoverflow.com/questions/10409235/cre...c-apt-sources-list-d
A little pointer in the right direction would be greatly appreciated All the update and upgrade have been done.
I have used 12.04 for a couple of years and run my gantry router on 10.4 so I thought I would get in on the ground floor with 12.04 and 2.6 with a bit of practice and testing.
Maybe help with a little trial and testing, though I may be more of a hindrance than help.

Hi
Open a terminal, enter sudo gedit
What happens, are you asked for a password?
Enter your password and you should have gedit open with root privilages.
Type deb linuxcnc.org precise base, carraige return and then File>Save-As /etc/apt/sources.list.d/linuxcnc.list
Ubuntu does not enable the root account by default and gives users sudo access
If you don't have sudo access, something went wrong on the install and you are going to have to enable root access to get it, but that is another story.
regards

Ok sorry next problem
seems it needs the http://part in deb linuxcnc.org precise base
when I type http:// into that line ie:- deb linuxcnc.org precise base
the http:// part shows up in draft but not in the post which I suppose is what happened in your post.
Anyway minors, how do I go about editing the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/linuxcnc.list
Thanks
