2.5 to 2.6 on 8.04 Question was created by cwebs
Can linuxcnc 2.5 running on version 8.04 be upgraded to 2.6.3 or do I have to go to a newer version of linux?. I run 8.04 because it ran linuxcnc better then 10.04. Thanks for any info, Carl

Says that 2.6 is not avalable for Hardy Heron (8.04)
It might be possible to make it work, but it might be a lot of work.

What has been dropped is the production of binary packages on the buildbot.
You could still build it from sources on your machine, but as Andy said, for you that might be a lot of work, especially if you do not need anything in 2.6, just want a version number update.
The instructions here are out of date but contain the basics

regards
PS
An alternative is to try installing the Wheezy based distro, if you have enough room for another partition on your HDD
I run 2 P4s on Wheezy, albeit using a homebrew uni-processor rtai kernel, the system itself is fine, just depends how thenew SMP kernel runs
Worst comes to worst you just delete the partition and forget it, might be worth a try

Since the compuiter is dedacated to my cnc machine and not used for anything else, I'll remove 10.04 from the duel boot and install Wheezy keeping my 8.04. Thanks for the info. Carl
