hi to all:
i was trying to install LCNC on Precise following this guide wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?UpdatingTo2.6

but on the step to add the LinuxCNC Archive Signing Key ($ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keys.gnupg.net --recv-key 8f374fef) the server timed out(or failed to respond).

if i run sudo apt-get update keep complaining about buildbot is a missing public (gpg?) key, and shows one but its not 8f374fef.

i was thinking about a problem with 12.04 but is doing the same with master in 10.04.

any advise ?
thanks for your time reading and answering
regards
rick

PS: seems that 2.8 is out, the key was changed?

Unless you have some reason to use Ubuntu I'd use the Debian Wheezy hybrid iso.

www.linuxcnc.org/index.php/english/download

2.6 is the latest release. There is a 2.7 beta branch and master.

Thanks for the answer BJT.
Nothing special keeps me with Ubuntu, only folders and file sharing and remote desktop with a very few clicks and go. I tried debian wheezy installation and is ok, but these items seems missing its gui, i know it could be done in command line, but these two things are done in ubuntu in a breeze.

Today i encountered the same error trying to update a 10.04lts fresh instalation from its original 2.5 to latest master (2.8pre...).

this is i was doing and the results:
to add buildbot master:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/linuxcnc-buildbot.list
added:
deb http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ lucid master-rt
deb-src http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ lucid master-rt

then run:
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keys.gnupg.net --recv-key E0EE663E
[sudo] password for fw:
Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --secret-keyring /etc/apt/secring.gpg --trustdb-name /etc/apt/trustdb.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --primary-keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyserver hkp://keys.gnupg.net --recv-key E0EE663E
gpg: requesting key E0EE663E from hkp server keys.gnupg.net
gpg: keyserver timed out
gpg: keyserver receive failed: keyserver error[/quote]

and in between:
sudo apt-get update
........
W: GPG error: http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org lucid Release:
The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY EF1B07FEE0EE663E

the same error that give me in precise and spoil my installation, from this i was thinking on the key missing in the latest master release.

any thougth?

Regards
Rick
