Hi

Most processors in desktops these days are 64bit, you can run 32 or 64 bit OS's on them.

The limitation is RAM. The Ubuntu kernel will only allow access to a max of 3.25GB but the PAE kernel on the debian.hybrid.iso should allow access to all your RAM, with a suitable processor.

Ubuntu 10.04 is dead, with no further updates and no support for later chipsets etc so the debian based iso is the one to install.

Yes your BIOS should just detect the HDD, if you have an old computer with an IDE bus, just make sure the HDD is correctly jumpered (master or slave) depending upon whether it is the first or second device on the bus.
Normally drive on the plug nearest the motherboard connector is 0 (master) and furthest from it is 1 (slave)

There is no 64 bit iso at this time
