password denied after installing usb to usb for li

I fenangled a thumb drive into booting the new linux install iso. Live option works great! Then I tried to install to another thumb drive and it worked fine until i tried rebooting after install. It refuses to acknowledge my password...is this a bug associated with booting from usb or what?
I'm not really keen to go scouting out a means to change my password via lower level prgs but I'd be willing to try it since I've re-installed already, 3 times, and still no password acceptance.

I don't know why this keeps coming up.

On at least one occassion the user was entering user name when the login was asking for password again after failed initial log in, so be sure press Cancel and start from scratch, in case there was an error in the user name and thus the password will never match.
