Debian Wheezy installation CD doesn't start was created by gimpo
My intention is to install it on my 8/9 years old desktop PC (the only one I have with parallel port):
1 Gigabyte RAM
160 Giga hard disk
AMD Sempron 3200+ processor
ASUStek M2V-TVM motherboard (with embedded graphic card)
(The PC was running Linux OpenSuse 12.x with no problems.)
I've downloaded the iso image and burned a fresh DVD with Debian and LinuxCNC 2.6. Here what happens:
1) the PC boots from the CD
2) the installation screen appears
3) I choose "Install (graphical)" (or "Install (text)") option
4) the screen becomes black
5) the cd-rom drive runs 1 or 2 seconds and then stay silent like a buddhist in deep meditation
6) nothing more happens
7) after a while (1 or 2 minutes) I press the reset button...
I have tried several times with the same result. Just the "failsafe" installation mode works but.... the system is unusable. The mouse pointer moves slowly and scattering, opening a window takes 30 seconds or more to get on the screen. Typing commands on the command line (char by char) takes minutes...
The only solution is to switch power off...
Any clue?

It looks like your DVD is corrupted. I would burn an new DVD with the same ISO. I've had that happen more times than I would like. An easier technique is to "burn" your ISO to a flash drive. That seems to work most of the time.

Hello,
thanks for your reply.
I've burned (and thrown away) 3 DVDs... that's enough for me.
They was working well only with the new Acer Notebook of my wife. No way to run the installation process on my old PC.
Alternatives:
- steal the notebook of my wife (and get a divorce for free)
- install and run Ubuntu 10.04
I have chosen the second option. Ubuntu 10.04 was installed without problems at all, and is working like a charm too! Thumb up!
