Installer does not see my windows XP on my disk was created by Gerry Sweetland
I would like to install Debian/LinuxCNC along side Windows XP/ Mach3 but when I get to the partitioner and I don't see an option to install along side an existing OS.
I'm installing from DVD using the LinuxCNC 2.6 ISO.
Thanks for any advice,
Gerry

Hi,
I expect you are just not seeing what you are used to.
You need to create a new partition from free space on the disk that is currently part of the one and only WinXP partition.
Then you can install to that and dual boot.
I thought there was an option specifically to do this, but if not just choose 'Manual configuration' and use the menu items to resize the existing partition, create a new logical partition on all but 1gb of the unallocated space this results in.
Select the new partition and create an ext2 filesystem to be used as root (/), that is what you will install to.
Finally select the unallocated 1gb and create a swap partition.
Then confirm and continue.
If you are unsure at any stage you can just quit and start again.

Thank you,
Yes, I thought there would be an option to specifically do this too.
