Hi all.
I'm a newbie to the CNC world but I'm so grateful for open-source projects such as LinuxCNC.
Just wondering if ZorinOS could be supported with a RTAI kernal patch, as it provides awesome Wine functionality out of the box.
- Jay.

What version of Ubuntu is zorbinos based on?
Linuxcnc developers seem to prefer Debian now, though I have heard of someone using Mint.

I believe it is based on 14.04LTS, not sure about the kernal version though (3.13.0 at August, 2014 - will check again soon).
Just if I had the knowledge to slap together a proper RTAI patch. I assume something like this may work (gist.github.com/gaoyifan/c881aa36cd02fb5c1c20) if I get the kernal versions offered by rtai and ZorinOS(Ubuntu) correct - assuming the Zorin kernal is default/vanilla.

You don't need to, it is already done
github.com/NTULINUX/RTAI contains patches and basic kernel configs
The kernel version used by Zorin is irrelevant, as long as you use one that is the same or newer, to ensure any module support it relies upon etc. is present.
Depends how much knowledge you do have
regards
PS
I am not going to get into coaching rtai kernel building again, but Birchy used what he learnt to produce scripts which will show you the process,
even if the target is not quite the same.
