No, you cannot run a bootloader image from inside another running system
You can certainly install over the top of windoze and wipe it, but I doubt that is what you mean.

Look on the left side of your screen, under the heading 'NEWS' is a link entitled '2.6 Live+Install image '
There are other links near the top of your screen, in the middle entitled 'Download' which end up in the same place.
You burn it to DVD and boot it, then install from there, read the instructions if you have not done similar before
www.linuxcnc.org/docs/2.5/html/common/Ge...html#_burning_the_cd

autorun is a windoze concept, from within a running system, for installing drivers and software etc
If you set you boot order in BIOS so that it searches the DVD first, it will boot from the DVD
Then you can install, part of which is creating a separate partition for the linux system, which will allow dual booting
sorry does it have to be a dvd ?
Yes, the image is 1.2GB
The install system is the standard Debian one, I would suggest you familiarise yourself with it, google how to install debian etc.
DO NOT under any circumstances click on 'Use whole disk' otherwise you will wipe windoze.
Until you are happy with what you are doing you can exit at any point and go and look up any bits you are not sure of.
If you have UEFI BIOS, you may need to disable 'Secure Boot' and UEFI before you can run the DVD.
It is basically a windoze con in the name of security, to try and prevent any other OS being installed.

I am learning more every day.
So the laptop will be great for programming in the office - but the running must still be
done by the old pentium connected to the machine?
