Hello all,

my name is Philipp and I come from north germany.
I have about 4 years linuxcnc experience but only as a normal user.
I run a big fibrewinding machine and a little isel benchtopmill with linux cnc. :)

The problem story:

Today I wanted test the newest 2.7.0 release.

So I started to install this version on an old Pentium 4 computer.
First I loaded this version:

www.linuxcnc.org/linuxcnc-2.7-wheezy.iso

Then I burned it on dvd and run it on the pc.

The first test was in live-mode.
All works fine. Stepconf works perfectly. Latency test runs all seems to be ok.
Then I decided to start pncconf because of my new big project with a mesa controlled rexroth servosystem.
Nothing happened. I push the button very hard, but this didn´t solve the problem.
So I install Linuxcnc in full mode on the hard disc.
But there was the same problem.
I checked the iso file with the md5sum check but there wasn´t any problem.
Next I burn the image to usb device and install the hole system new...
Same Problem. Pncconf hate me.

I opened the taskmanager and show what happens when I start pncconf.
After opening pncconf the task is green in the tasklist. Few seconds later it changes into red and than it kill itself.

Did anyone had same problems? Are there any possibilities to correct this problem?

Best regards from germany

Philipp

Edit: All installations were offline, was that the problem?

I'd guess if your using the Debian Wheezy live cd then the old p4 is just too old for that. Try the 10.04 LiveCD then upgrade to 2.7.

linuxcnc.org/iso/ubuntu-10.04-linuxcnc3-i386.iso

Okay, tomorrow i will test it on a newer pc with dual core cpu and ddr2 ram.

But this seems to be a strange reason because the other software parts worked.

Pncconf is a very busy program and on some of my older computers it can take up to 3-4 minutes just to start up. On newer computers I have it starts up in less than a minute. I just upgraded from 2.7 pre something to 2.7.0 and ran Pncconf just fine.

I tested it with core 2 4300 1,8ghz; 2gb ram pc but pncconf still sleeps.
I waited about 5min after the first click, nothing happens.

Sometimes installisation of 2.6.x and upgrade to 2.7.0 could help but I think other people also use 2.7.0 as a clean new system.

Did someone use pncconf with new install of 2.7.0?

Regards Philipp

In IRC chat we work out that the newest download is 2.7.0 pre-2. So I had to update to 2.7.0 final.
Because of no working pncconf I test the 2.6.4 version and pncconf works perfectly.
Next step is the update from 2.6.4 to 2.7.0 final.

The update runs very good after some trouble with public key errors.

I fixed that with:

# apt-get install debian-keyring debian-archive-keyring
# apt-key update

regards Philipp
