Oops, my bad, I forgot where I put the test program so it was an invalid path...

Some ideas of where to from here would be appreciated.

Do the tests again, now you know the parport is recognised and able to be claimed by linuxncnc

I never use the parport test because it does not test actual connections.

Open a sim in linuxcnc and open the Machine > HAL Configuration > Pins > parport0 and watch the input pins

Ground an input on the BOB, does it show up?

Can you elaborate on what you mean by that? As far as I can see it toggles outputs and indicates inputs.

ArcEye,

Thanks, now I've got this far, I think I need to regroup and get a bit organised. Where I have my hardware right now is not really easy to play with.

I did give the BOB a bit of a prod with a test wire to ground but did not see anything on the console. I wired it up months ago so need to review it all.

I'll come back when I get myself sorted out.

Because the output LED will light irrespective of whether the signal gets through.
It just gives a false impression, but is only saying that a signal was output.

It is also useless for testing inputs with BOBs that require a charge-pump signal to activate.

Testing the actual wiring and BOB through the HAL Configuration panel on a running system will always give a true result and test the entire
system.

I see that is indicating that you just attempted to turn on the pin, and that is the one that should be showing matching activity on the hardware when you poke it with the mutimeter.
