Question about Latencytest was created by Holzwurm56
Hello,
i have install LinuxCNC on a quadcore computer with a graphiccard and the latencytest shows 42000. To test at home i have install Linuxcnc on my old laptop 1.06 GHz dualcore and the test shows 6000. What is my mistake?
The test shows that the computer is well enough for servos, but why has the better and newer computer so a bad latencytest?
Thanks
Hans

Not your mistake, just the way the computers work inside. The new ones have a lot of power saving options and frequency reductions and switch memory frequency on the go, serial ATA power saving, etc etc.
With RTAI you get better latency on older computers, RT-PREEMPT is better for new computers.
If you intend to use parallel port that is not bad latency and can be used without problems, just set the base thread to a higher value.
If using Mesa boards, that latency is OK as there is no need for a base thread.
