update from 2.7.0 to 2.7.8 problem was created by Ivan_The_Red
I wanted to update my debian wheezy 2.7.0 to the latest release per the update instructions for the "manual" update using a .deb file. In the instructions it says to use the "amd64" .deb file for 64 bit machines but there arent any ".deb" files there to download. I also noticed that the "i386" files that are there are very new. Is someone still working on updating the 64 bit stuff ? I dont have an internet connection available.
Thanks
Jeff

thats great , shoul i use the "i386" or the "all" version for a 64 bit intel based machine ? Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question but all of the documentation said to use the "amd64" for a 64 bit machine.
Thanks for the help , i really do appreciate that

Choose the distro you are using, choose rt-preempt, there choose amd64.

I'm attempting update from 2.7.0. to the latest and I'm getting an error that's stating that linuxcnc-uspace is conflicting with linuxcnc , do i have to use the package manager to uninstall 2.7.0. before i upgrade? It sounds like it, but i really don't want to screw my whole system up. Can anyone guide me through the steps?
I downloaded ( 3 ) files they begin with:
linuxcnc-doc-en
linuxcnc-uspace-dev
linuxcnc-uspace
Im confused
Thanks
Jeff

Open terminal, type uname -a
What does it say? You insist on having 64bit version installed, but if it is saying that it conflicts with linucnc, you most probably have a 32 bit version. In that case just download the i386 version of Linuxcnc, that should work.
Regards,
Tom

It says 3.4.9-rtai-686-pae #1 smp preempt Debian 3.4.55-linuxcnc i686 gnu/linux.
I do believe you are correct , i did attempt to install the amd64 update and it did tell me that it was an incorrect attempt.
My issues did come from an attempt at installling the linux-uspace_2.7.8.36_i386.deb file

Hi Tom
I found out my issue , i needed to install the linux 2.7.8.36.gc9abccc i386.deb file from the buildbot.linuxcnc.org/dists/wheezy/2.7-rt/binary-i386 directory....worked like a charm.
Thanks a bunch for your time and help
