I am currently running 2.7.8 and i setup a sandbox with 2.8 pre to see if some issues i am having are resolved and they are!

My question: What challenges will I run into if i take this upgrade path?

Start with 2.7.8 release - change distro references to 2.8 pre and update (making appropriate .inii/.hal changes
run for a while
change distro to 2.8 release once released

Does this make sense? is it appropriate?

Thanks for heads-up on any gotcha's...

If you are using debian wheezy iso from download section, that is all you have to do and it works without issues as far as i can tell, done it several times. The hal and ini rarely need to be modified as there is already a script that will change the entries for joit/axis automaticly.

ok - i agree that works well from 2.7.8 to 2.8 (dev)
so what you are indicating is that when 2.8 is released (2.8.0 or 2.8.1) then changing the distro back should be all i need to do?

Not the distro, just the entries in sources list, same thing you did to go from 2.7 to 2.8,

Perfect - so the expectation would be that once 2.8 is released we update the sources and keep on trucking.

Awesome - sounds like I am hopping on the dev train!
