I would try compiling on a different system
or leave off the -j4

Does it always stop at the same compile step? (pktcdvd)

the error occurs not always at the same position.

is this a sign for a hardware error?

Does kind of look like flaky hardware or bad driver
is the system hung or just the graphics?

that is, does numlock still toggle?, can you log in on a virtual terminal?
(control-alt F1 to get virtual terminal 1 control-alt F7 to get back to X)

numlock wasn't toggling.

i started make deb-pkg without -j4
this is running at the moment. it takes a lot of time. (45min and is still running)

i tried this: "or leave off the -j4"

without this -j4 it worked!

but i've a new problem. there is a hardware problem. it is like the arrow down on the keyboard is pressed all the time. it is in the uefi menue and also in linux. it is still the same problem if i disconnect the keyboard :-(

i ordered a new board:

hope this is a better one

the up square isn't available until end of july. so i ordered an up board:

i have the same problem as with the chuwi hibox.

i can install Lubuntu 16.04
i can install Linuxmint 18.1
i can install ubilinux

but nothing debian based:
debian 7 and 8, and Linuxmint debian edition etc all these doesn't recognise the internal emmc storage!

i know there is an tread how to compile a new kernel and linuxcnc from the sources. but i prefer to download a RT kernel DEB (not available for Ubuntu 16.4, linuxmin 18.1 and ubilinux)
i found this deb: linux-image-4.9.0-0.bpo.2-rt-amd64-unsigned_4.9.18-1-bpo8+1_amd64.deb

my plan was to install jessie with RT and then use the buildbot to install linuxcnc.
i think i can not use the buildbot to install linuxcnc in linuxmint 18.1?

is there no way without debian 7 and 8 without compiling linuxcnc from the sources? i tryed this. but i get errors and warnings etc. it was running at the end. but i didn't trust this self compiled setup. i'll run big machines with this software. so i've to be shure that this works properly.

I think compiling your own LinuxCNC is the way most likely to work.

What flavour of realtime is in that kernel?

i think i need the preemtive RT for the Mesa 7i76e?

i already compiled the kernel for linux mint 18.1. this worked.
