I'm probably being thick... but trying to upgrade from 2.7.0, I can't get anything to download. The website just times out. Is this a problem, maintenance downtime or my stupidity?

What is your repository setting in Synaptic?
LinuxCNC,org is certainly online, this forum is hosted there.

No idea, I wasn't using Synaptic, I just went direct to LinuxCNC home. It hangs on connect whether I try it from Linux or Windows.

Update- I asked a friend to contact the site- and it's fine for him. Now, here, 3 computers, 2 operating systems, all fail to find it, it won't even ping. Only the network hub is left, but why pick on LinuxCNC? Any hints much appreciated!

Not solved, traceroute shows it's some server in the USA killing it. I can get to LinuxCNC using a proxy server, that will have to do for now!

That's very weird.
Unless the server in the US is Dreamhost?

Problem "gone away"! I restarted the wifi hub after a bit of a wait so I get a new lease. It now works. Tracert says it was hanging between two cogentco nodes, before dreamhost got hold of it. If you know why, you are probably qualified to steal bitcoins.
Sadly I'd already taken emergency measures with a neighbour's computer, and downloaded the new live installation, and overwrote the old setup. Nothing serious lost except a bit of time.
Thanks for the comments.
