Upgrade to 2.8 and the 7i76e, I give up...;) was created by Stud54
Hello guys, I'm Sven.
I try to explain what I've tried.
Usually I work with wheezy and the 2.7er Linuxcnc version. That works fine with the 7i76e. I use the preempt rt and hm2_eth.
But a upgrade to 2.8 failed. If I use the builtbot
master version with rt preempt, the hm2 is not found. If I use the master rtai and switch the kernel to rt preempt, Linuxcnc cant start and says "Need the rtai kernel for working"
A normal upgrade works but the config is not useable with an ethernet card.
And what is uspace? I think, I need this...
Has anyone upgraded to 2.8 with a ethernet card?
Sorry for my not existing Knowledge...;(
Best regards Sven

You need the uspace version of LinuxCNC to run Mesa Ethernet cards so the buildbot's Preempt-RT/LinuxCNC uspace
deb should work, I would start there and figure out why the card is not found.
To figure out why the card is not found, the results of running these commands would be helpful:
uname -a
ip a
(I run 2.8 with Ethernet cards all the time)

I have not used any of the buildbot versions (i have always compiled from source)
but
deb buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ wheezy master-sim
looks right if your base OS is wheezy (despite the master-sim name)
and
buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ stretch master-rtpreempt
would be right if you started with Debian Stretch (say the LinuxCNC/Debian Stretch test ISO)
