Not exactly. But there are more motherboards that can work adequately with the P-Port and RTAI than work with RT_PREEMPT.
(I actually have a PC that gives better latency with uspace than I have ever had with RTAI, but that is an unsual case).
Mesa cards (including the ethernet ones) can work adequately with 500uS latency, whereas a parallel port system will struggle if the latency is as high as 50uS (and 5uS would be nicer)

Is this to say that parallel ports are only supported by RTAI? You allude to this but don't actually say so.

I have always been appreciative of the existence of this software, and especially for the assistance I've received from others. This shouldn't prevent me from sharing my opinions of what works and what doesn't.

All in all we should be appreciative for all the hard work that goes into Linuxcnc. Developing is much more difficult task.
