Hi
Let me start by saying that I am a complete beginner to Linux and LinuxCNC but I have researched my error and could not find a reference or solution.
I am installing on a Dell PowerEdge T20 with Xeon E3-1225 processor and Crucial CT480M SSD. I get to boot off the USB drive but when I select Graphical Install, I immediately get the following error:
ERST: Failed to get Error Log Address Range
Nothing else on the screen. Is this a compatibility error? Can anyone help?

When you get the the screen to select your options for Linuxcnc press TAB then type
acpi=off (this may or may not work)
Read this page as well.
www.supermicro.com/support/faqs/faq.cfm?faq=15594
A google search of the term "ERST: Failed to get Error Log Address Range" will bring up quite a pages.

Thanks. I tried that (acpi=off) and it gave me a blank screen.
I also googled the error before I posted and tried all the solutions that were suggested. Maybe I missed something.
Any other ideas?

Ok no probs......you've had a good look.
It maybe just be the particular computer you are trying to use.
The most used system would appear to be a desktop type platform for Linuxcnc.......servers can be a bit finicky sometimes
Seems to happen a lot, and there seems to be multiple reasons why....Could be an issue with the kernel.
Have you tried booting any other Linux distros on this machine ? Just for a base line

Assuming you are using the "normal" RTAI liveCD image one very easy variation to try is the experimental Stretch / preempt-rt image. That is a different kernel, different Linux version and different realtime system....
