I have a computer with windows os on it. Will Linux cnc write over it? Do I need to wipe the hard drive somehow? Would it be better to buy a new hard drive with nothing on it?
As the username implies, i_r_machinist, not computer guy.
thanks in advance

It should not write over it if you DO NOT choose the "use entire disk" option.
Usually the default choice on the Linux installers is to install side by side with windows.
Or you can use the live boot till you get more comfortable with Linuxcnc or till you get another drive.

It usually can if you want it to. The exception is if the computer is set up to not allow it.

If you don't want to overwrite Windows usually you will need to resize the windows partition to make room.

I chose to "use entire disc" on installation. Everthing seems fine. I have a machine format up now and watching youtube to step my way through.
Thanks for the help!
