Its a configuration meant to drive a 5 dof robot (5 servo motors). The only difference since last Friday that it was functional was that yesterday i tried to copy the linuxcnc file (with all its contents) under my home directory to usb drive in order to move the configuration to a new pc (if you know how to do this, your help is much appreciated) from terminal with command cp -r etc. Thanks in advance.

There is something missing in the shared libraries, try to google where those libraries should reside and try to copy the missing ones.

When this happens to me its becasue I forgot to compile a custom component
halcmd: error while loading shared libraries: libreadline.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

That does not sound like a standard library

apt-get install libreadline5

Something seems to be quite old, a module or linuxcnc is compiled on an other computer perhaps.
The above should fix it.

As until a few minutes ago the pc didnt have access to the internet as it was in the lab of my university. The course of action i took was to find the libreadline.so.5 in the pc but that failed. What i discoverd was that in ../usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/ existed libreadline.so.6 and libreadline.so library file what i did was create libreadline.so.5 as a mirror image of existing libreadline.so (basically cd to the folder mentioned and sudo cp libreadline.so libreadline.so.5). I know my solution is a bit childish but it worked and nothing else seems affected. I still cant understand what caused the problem though. Anyway, thanks everyone for your answers!
