First Run - Crashing on startup

Probably something super simple here... Did I install the wrong version?

Older HP core2duo I believe, I can get full specs, I thought it would run LinuxCNC fine, but I can get better machine lined up if need be. I had a different version, but I believe since I am using the 7i92 with 7i77 I needed this version. Tried going through config builder a few times, but can't get it to actually open up. Crashes on startup. I tried 7i92 software downloaded from mesa site, but can't get linuxCNC to open that config.

Sorry for the newb question! I read through a few forum post, but didn't think I was having same problem, so I thought I'd post the log in case someone noticed something obvious. Is it parallel port not found causing it to crash?

Can you run a sim?

A 7i92 does not need a parallel port. Have you setup the NIC to talk to the 7i92?

Thanks JT, I will make sure it's connecting and try to run a SIM, I thought I did, but that might have been the previous installation.

I tried configuring a few HAL files and used the config, but I must have screwed it up. I will try again, I had the 7i92 pinging, but i will double check it again next time i am there.

Guess I didn't think that linuxCNC would crash because it couldn't communicate. Figured I had something else wrong. Now I know and thanks for the help, I will try it again and reply back.

It look like you are attempting to run a parallel port configuration.
This fails because there does not seem to be a parallel port on your PC.
( This is not really a crash, its LinuxCNC exiting because it was asked to do something
that was not possible )

How did you create your hal/ini files? If this is for a 7I92/7I77 you will need to use pncconf.

Just getting this thing started, so I would like to just hook up one axis motor/encoder to see if I can get it to move and report that movements. Is that a good way to begin to get this machine running?

Or is there an a good implementation procedure on how to hook things up in what order? Sorry for the basic questions, if I should read up on this I will. My experience has been with Mach3, but I wanted to get away from it on this project, hence the LinuxCNC because I think that's the future.

I went through the pnconf but kinda skipped through the details since I kinda wanted to focus on just one thing and edit it from there, maybe that's not the right way to do it, so I can re-run it with whatever you guys suggest. I don't have the motors connected to the pulleys so I know it won't home, nor do I have the home switches connected. Currently I just have the Y axis encoder (ENCODER 1) and Y axis driver (DRV 1) connected.

So the actual error is this:

sysctl: cannot stat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/eth0:avahi/disable_ipv6: No such file or directory

I dont think I have ever seen this error but as far as I can tell it related to not setting up
a static IP address for eth0
(man hm2_eth)

I thought I set up static IP for eth0 and since this computer is only connected to the Mesa 7i92 I just set it up as 192.168.1.100, that was with IPv4 though, don't usually mess with IPv6. Left the 7i92 as 192.168.1.121.

Thanks for the clarification, I will dig into that more thoroughly.
