Dual Boot with Lubuntu

I am re-commissioning an old Knee-mill that was last running many years ago with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and LinuxEMC 2.1.0.

The computer failed today and I have put together a replacement tower that has Lubuntu 18.04.2 LTS.
The Lubuntu was simply to prove the tower was fully operational, nothing added to the DVD install.
I am comfortable with Lubuntu and this is what I use on my personal Laptop.

The current LinuxCNC appears to run under a Debian OS.

Is there any advantage in installing the Debian alongside Lubuntu in a Dual-boot configuration ?

Not really, they should both do nicely.
The main difference is in installing Linuxcnc, thee is a ready image of Debian Stretch with Linuxcnc included here:
www.linuxcnc.org/testing-stretch-rtpreempt/
but fo Ubuntu you will have to install the RTAI or Preempt-RT kernel and Linuxcnc, so takes more time.

main queation shoudt be why lubuntu
if you replaced all the stuff to upgrade
use the Ubuntu or Mini beside the debian CNC

there shoudt be no need for lubuntu on a 4GB RAM mashine
if it is a one pcb pc ofcause you shoudt consider to go for mint at all non debian

Thanks for the comments.

Lubuntu does everything I need, but I suspect Debian would also.
So, to keep things simple for now, I will go with the LinuxCNC image alone.
If Debian is found wanting, I can always add something else later.

I see a lot of discussions and recommendations for Mint, so I will investigate that before making a decision.
