1. I purchased and Asrock Q1900M motherboard and have been trying for a week to get it to work for me to no avail.

2, I am sure that wheezy cnc distro would work fine for me but I cant get this motherboard to boot in legacy mode regardless of what
I try. I see others using this motherboard with reportedly good results but no info on the distro they are using or how the managed to
get it to install.

3. Ive installed 64 bit linux versions including the stretch cnc distro but latency is bad

4. Ive sucessfully installed amd64 distros ubuntu and mint but and ive made them work with preempt kernels but latency is not
sufficient for software stepping.

5. Ive tried several suggestions to install an RTAI kernel on amd64 distros but havent been successful at that.

6. Would be very appreciative if anyone could help me on how to get a good distro on my motherboard or recommend another
system that would work( some of the used systems on amazon or preferably one with an installed J1900 processor).

linuxcnc.org/temp/
Install Mint 19.2 64bit version, install headers, image, modules, reboot into that kernel, install Linuxcnc2.8 pre1.
Works perfectly.

is that the prempt kernel?

I may have been able to do that but the latency seemed high above 150us or so?

No, that is RTAI and it has latency of under 20.000 on a D1800 board.

You have to enable source code repositories in the software sources from the administration menu.

I have LinuxCNC 2.8 with RTAI kernel running on Ubuntu 18.04 amd64 and latency never exceeded 21 uSec. This with glxgears x3 firefox youtube linuxcnc 20 segment series running.

This is on an Asrock Q1900M motherboard 4G DDR3 installed in one slot only. most all power management disabled but with onboard audio and video still enabled. Did nothing to isolcpus.

Thanks to Tommy Andy and everyone for the help.

I live Mint 19.2 very much so I set out to install this on a second sata WDC blue SSD 250gb ssd.
So Linux Mint 19.2 installed fine with no issues. Did all updates from the install info page shown at startup.
I set source code repositories flag in system source code app.
Then again installed kernel no issues and all the apps suggested by Andy.
Once again glib and python-yapps not found. But this was the case in the above install.
Then again installed RTAI modules no issue
But now back to the same issue
When installing LinuxCNC I got numerous dependency issues and a broken package.
So went back checked source code repositories still set. and so then I installed the
key signature as outlined in buildbot. This did not do anything.
unchecked and rechecked software repository flag. This did nothing.
Loaded Synaptic and repaired the broken LinuxCNC package an
then used dpkg again to install and it all installed fine.

Next tried to install linuxcnc-dev and that failed with to dependencies missing
g++ and python-serial. once again repeated repair with synaptic and installed
with dpkg no issues.

I'm not sure why this works if anyone could give me some insight into this I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not sure what all goes into this I had done an apt-get update also prior to using synaptic but that did not help.

Oh and end result are Linux Mint 19.2 running LinuxCNC 2.8 no apparent issues.
Same hardware setup as the above install. 3x glxgears, firefox youtube linuxcnc series and Rhythm Box Radio NPR channel running. Latency 19950 :)

Thanks again for all the fantastic help.
