Updating compiled package from master branch 2.9 was created by CNCFred
I installed debian 10 , copied linuxcnc source from github master branch 2.9 and compiled a package which I installed on the same machine.
configured the machine and also plasmac
HOW do I update Linuxcnc and Plasmac on my installation? sources.list has no entries of linuxcnc
Do I need to compile a new updated source download ?

What version are you hoping to upgrade to ?
Master/2.9 is the development version
2.8 is being stabilised for the next release
2.7 is the current stable realese.
3.0 is but a glint in someone's eye.
Here's the buildbot page.

The latest buildbot packages are here

The buildbot link I gave has the info required. Read that.
Tho I would be cautious about updating, especially the dev version, without fully investigating the changes made. Personally I would stick with the version you have and get that running smoothly before updating.

I read the buildbot already and used the signing key.
Was not quite sure if that should work for my self made Deb package.
Your advice is appreciated and I will do so!

If you search the options for apt or apt-get you can force the installation of a particular package version.
But I would implore you read a bit more on the usage of apt & apt-get for your own benefit, anything to do with installing packages is the same with debian. I find every so often I have to do a quick search if I haven't used apt for a while or need to do "something a bit funky".
sudo apt-get install <package name>=<version>
