linuxcnc 2.8 not showing up in synaptic

I have installed linuxcnc 2.7.14 from the iso image.

I have followed these instructions:

buildbot.linuxcnc.org

and I've un-selected the linux 2.7.14 sources in the synaptic package manager and added

deb buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ wheezy 2.8-rt

I've also tried

deb buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ wheezy 2.8-rtpreempt


but after Reload I still can only see 2.7.14 in synaptic so I cannot upgrade.

Suggestions?

my uname -a says

Linux debian 3.4-9-rtai-686-pae #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 3.4.55-4linuxcnc i686 GNU/Linux

Interesting how difficult it is to find current info, I thought I did" the right" by downloading the iso from linuxcnc website and then upgrading to 2.8.

So what would be the right way to get 2.8 if I want to just wipe the laptop clean and start over?

My main goal is try to use this setup as reference platform when I'm writing some code for Mac that interfaces to whb04b-6 pendant.

Can someone confirm that 2.8 contains the whb04b in /usr/bin or at least the source code so I can compile it?

People who google for installing LinuxCNC get easily into that page and that page instructs you to download ISO image which is wheezy and 2.7 and the instruction (elsewhere) on how to upgrade to 2.8 don't work.

If you don't mind using Mint 19.2 there is an ISO that contains Linuxcnc and is ready to go. Updated packages are usually built and uploaded on a Saturday or Sunday.

Just be sure to follow this post for updating the key from the keyserver for updates
