Did by any chance the monitor get detached prior to such issues ?
Mint with Mate has a habit of leaving stuff on the desktop or not showing them after messing with the monitors like detaching them and attaching them to the same or another port, same thing on the laptops when switching monitors.
Usually it goes away after a short while, but sometimes only reboot helps.

Don't take the P out of a pensioner. You wouldn't have 2 ports with a post processor . So yes as a parallel port

Rob: First a big thank you for the iso I have used it many times.
I am not sure if your server is down but I am seeing that it is not updating. It is showing PlasmaC as version 0.126 and it should be around V0.145
I know you said you generally update on a weekend but thought I would check in to see if it was my problem here.

Did you install it and attempt to update the Linuxcnc packages ?
Yes I ran sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade.
I have just run the above again and it ran fine.
Cheers clive much appreciated.

Hello, BeagleBrainz.
I logged into the forum a very short time ago. I am in the process of refitting my 5 axis CNC machine with linuxCNC 2.8. I start with a totally virgin PC, and the ideal solution to configure it with LinuxMint + Linuxcnc integrated.
So I used your .iso image for the installation which is a fantastic job. I meet a Problem at the installation. An error message that mentions that the package. I have redone the installation several times, but impossible to go further.
Can you please help me.
thank you so much

Unfortunately my French is absent.
All I can make out is there is an issue installing grub.
As the installer is exactly as shipped by Mint some further searching regarding the issue maybe required on your behalf.
