Hi everyone,
I tried to install linuxcnc 2.8 on my laptop.
The installation went well but, at the beginning when the double boot goes (as a first choice on linuxcnc), all my usb ports and the wifi does not work any more.
All the usb ports seems dead.

I tried different solutions, like modify the grub boot loader, trying to enable IOMMU but nothing seems to work.
If I reboot and go on windows10, everything goes back to normal.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks.
V.

Unless you give a bit more concise information regarding your hardware it's like wondering around in the dark with your eyes closed and a welding helmet on.

What model is your laptop ?
What ISO did you use to install ie: version ?
Do you know what exact model of a wifi adapter you are using, how is it connected ?
If you run
lspci
in a terminal in debian what is the output ?

There is a chance that the version of linux you installed does not support your hardware, very rare nowadays but can happen. Sometimes Debian doesn't include "non-free" firmware blobs that some wifi adapters need.

Try the Buster ISO.
Some tests have been done with that laptop and it doesn’t appear to be a good candidate for Linuxcnc. Tho your mileage may vary.
There also is a Linux Mint 19.3 iso available. Links can be found under “Installing Linuxcnc” section of the forum.

I would say Wheezy is far to old to have support for your laptop hardware. The 2.7 ISO you used is no longer the release version of Linuxcnc. Download the current 2.8 release ISO on Buster and try that. I suspect it will solve your problem. If not try Mint. It works on most laptops.

Thank you very much again for your help.
I will try buster iso and if it does not lead to any result I will have a go with the other option.

Hi every one,
I finally manage to install linuxCNC on my laptop.

So basically what i did was to install first linux Mint 19.3 as suggested.
Installation was no problem but I have to deal with a few issues.
One was the fact that i need to install the firmware for my wireless chip; I solve that with a b43 firmware.
The other issue was that Firefox was not able to resolve host name; I tried first to ping 8.8.8.8 and www.google.com with no luck.
What I did in the end was to apt-get update and dis install and reinstall Firefox.
Reboot and wireless with a working Firefox was ready to go.

Next step was to install linuxCNC with the procedure suggested.
I did not have time yet to test linuxCNC but, at the first look seems ok or at least it open.
So far everything seems in order.

I have other question that will come from my effort in approaching this software but, at the present moment I have one which I soon will open in a new topic.

I consider this topic close for my point of view.
Thank you very much again for all the help I have received.

Regards,
V.

Any reason you didn't use the Mint ISO with Linuxcnc pre installed ? Just out of interest.

Your browser has no affect on DNS. It was more likely rebooting and, I'm assuming this, getting your IP, DNS & Gateway via dhcp once rebooted.

I did not it existence.
I just followed without thinking to much the instructions.
Tried before the buster iso with no much luck and then I went straight to linux Mint
I follow the guide on a topic in installing linuxCNC.
I find that researching is very tiring so if someone comes with a way to try some solution, I go for that.
So, try answering your question, is basically due to my lazy mind.
Actually if you have handy the link to that iso and if it does not take to much of you time, would be nice to posted so I can burn on a dvd just in case for future installation.
Thanks.
