Hi,
I have to mention one very important thing: I have no linux experience or knowledge.
I have a cnc machine controlled by linux cnc I have installed many years ago (10 I would guess).
I did that by installing ubuntu and linux cnc using image downloaded from linuxcnc.org. back than this computer was already old.
Now I have a problem because some time ago system crushed, and although it did manage to resolve this problem in general, my GUI is not working 100% correct.
So now I need a way to fix this, but since I have no internet access on this machine and have no linux experience I was wandering if it would not be the easiest solution to just install up to date linuxcnc along with new system.
My only concern is that if up to date system will run on my computer.
I tried to check what the specs are but did not find much (without physically taking it apart).
- CPU is listed as unknown type. I thinks it may be AMD, base freq. is 133MHz, and it runs at 1100 MHz.
- As for the rest it is all on the main board (graphics, ......)
- it does NOT boot from usb. only possible options are Floppy, CD, HDD.
What would you propose to do? (Not replacing my computer).
Cris.

If you can describe the GUI issue we can work from there.
Otherwise I think you would be looking at a new computer.

So m problem is exactly that I need to add 4-tx axis to my machine configuration.
I tried to do that by editing ini and hal files but that did not work as I got errors and nothing working in the end.
So I thought I will use setup config wizard, as I did in the beginning but I found out that I have no "applications" list/menu on the top bar, and than I noticed that this bar looks different than before crash.
So either
I need to edit config files for my machine to define 4-th axis (had read manual related to ini and hal files but did not succeed to edit this files correctly),
or
I need to launch config wizard (do not know how to do that not having applications menu),
or
I need to fix mu GUI (gnome) to have applications on the top bar back ( so to launch config wizard).
