I'm trying to set up a DELL Optiplex 7010 USFF. As I need a PCI connector for my hardware and the MB of this PC only has a miniPCIe connector:

I thought I'd try to use an adaptor like this:

www.delock.com/produkte/G_41359/merkmale.html

However I can't get it recognized and it does not show up in $ lspci at all.

Has any body successfully used one of these adapters for the miniPCIe?

I do recall someone using it (Beagle maybe ??), but in general they should work, the only things messing it up are:
-the cable, low quality ones will not work due to very high frequencies going through them
-PCI-E generational differences
To test this, see if you can set the PCI-E gen to 1 and reboot. That will use the lowest speed for communication but it should still be more than enough for everything, except 1GB network or graphic card or storage.

Ok, after I noticed that the PCI Bridge got recognized in the BIOS I decided to reset the BIOS to default and restarted.

And bingo, it works!

i recently played with the hp 6300 sff, and i remember where was an option in the "security" menu of the bios setup to disable various things including PCI, PCIe slots. maybe the same with the dell?

Those are "Enterprise" PC's and as such have more security features, like disabling the USB ports, while they have very little for adjusting and setting up we usually need, like disabling the utterly useless hyperthreading!
But on the positive side, they do have the best electronics parts found on PC's.
