Hi

I'm new to LinuxCNC and I'm having an odd issue with the install. I have tried the latest 2.8 release both using the graphics mode and text mode install and everything works fine until I reboot. At which point Linux appears to boot normally and then at the very last stage where I assume the login screen would show the monitor warns of a connection been dropped and the screen is blank. I have tried the PC using a straight copy of Debian and it drives the display without issue.

Any ideas how to fix this or even diagnose it?

Thanks

Did you check the md5sum of the downloaded ISO?
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-start...etting-linuxcnc.html
Section 1.3 Verify the image.

That got me to the login screen - thanks

After trying the 2.8 install I have reverted to the 2.7 as the jitter was off the chart (100000+) with 2.8 (8000 with 2.7) and the display simply wouldn't render to any sort of sensible resolution. I'm guessing there are issues with the display hardware which is Nvidia using the 2.8 install but unfortunately I don't have time to dig in now. I don't fully understand why the jitter would be that bad but if anyone has ideas I can spend some time may be at the weekend trying again.

You should be able to upgrade your 2.7 install to LinuxCNC 2.8.1 _without_ changing the OS or kernel.
The actual LinuxCNC version should have no affect on latency.
