Starting with plain debian buster i added:
deb http://linuxcnc.org/ buster base 2.8-rt
to the apt sources.
installing the RTAI kernel and the linuxcnc packge worked just fine. however the linuxcnc-dev package is simply missing and not in the repo at all. I need this package to compile some custom hal modules. where can i get the package?

no that wont work im on the buster "2.8-rt" repo see here linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-start...#cha:Installing-RTAI. That is the rtai version. linuxcnc-uspace-dev is in the 2.8-rtpreempt repo and applies only to the preemptrt version of linuxcnc.

You are right. That's a bit of an oversight.

I am building the package for 2.8.1 now
