21:9 display was created by CaspianCmonster
Hi I have setup my linuxcnc computer with a KVM switch so I can control it from my normal computer at my desk. That works fine but I happen to use a wide monitor (2560 x 1080) and I have tried a few remedies from line searches without success. I did manage to kill the gui and had to remember my command line so I could go remove the 10-monitor file I had created.
I can use it in the default 1920x1080 but that means everything is stretched 25% in the width which is kind of annoying
This is the standard iso install with Debian
Any ideas?
Luke

Hmm, I assumed it would default to the native resolution of the monitor.
What graphics card do you have?
What does 'xrandr' say (when run in the terminal)?

Did you test it without the KVM ?

Aye, 'tis possible that the KVM is not passing the detection pins. Or is not passing them when the system needs them.

thanks for the replies, it is the same problem with or without the KVM switch (and the KVM switch works fine with the other two computers) I had used the Linuxcnc box with a different (normal size) monitor before but I am trying to save space in the workshop.
I just have to figure out how to add the 2560 x 1080 display size, it doesn't show it in xrandr
here are the top few lines from that:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-D-1 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 798mm x 334mm
1920x1080 59.97 59.96* 60.00 50.00 59.94 59.93
The computer is a little single board atom
graphics is listed as:
Intel Atom Processor D2xxx/N2xxx Integrated Graphics

If all else fails, try the old-fashioned hand edit to xorg.conf. (You might have to create the file)

If you are using the LinuxCNC ISO then you won't have gedit, but gksudo geany... should work.
