LinuxCNC on Laptop with Lubuntu - Simulator Only was created by electrosteam
I have a laptop with Lubuntu 21.04 rolling upgrade in my home office.
I use LibreCAD and CamBam as my Gcode tools.
LinuxCNC runs under Debian in the workshop on a parallel port desktop.
No LAN between the machines, sneaker net with USBs.
I would like to install LC on my laptop so that I can do trial runs in the comfort of the house,
What version of LC, without regard to speed etc, would suffice for desktop simulation ?
Keep well,
John.

The uspace version of LinuxCNC is intended to work with the preempt-rt kernel for machine control, but will run with the stock kernel for simulator duties.
Try
If that doesn't work, follow the instructions here, starting at step 7.1-8

Try
sudo apt-get install linuxcnc-uspace

Andy, thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, my 'reliable' old desktop has quit putting out a video signal, so my machining ability has been terminated.
I have a RPi4B and Mesa ready to go, so this will keep me busy for a few days.
Once the RPi is functional, I will take on board your suggestions for the laptop.
Keep well,
John.
