Raspbery Pi 4 - 4GB or 8GB - which one or both? was created by JacquidR
Hi there,
Pease advise for which Raspberry Pi4 the available downloadable image "LinuxCNC 2.8.1 Raspberry Pi OS based on Debian 10 Buster " .
The 4GB or the 8GB? Or both?
I am asking because there were previously issues with USB etc on the 8GB and now I am not sure if this is resolved with this latest available image. And I want to buy more pies but can't unless I know which RAM to purchase.
Thank you.
Regards, Jacqueline du Rand

I admit that I haven't tried running on a Pi for some time, and I created the SD images on the LinuxCNC site.
I would suggest going with the 4GB, mainly as it is cheaper and 4GB is enough for LinuxCNC.

Not to hijack the thread but.
Why no 64 bit image and only 32bit?

(And, also, the buildbot that makes the debs was 32-bit)

Simply that at the time I built the images Raspian was 32 bit and the pre-packaged preempt-rt kernel was 32-bit.Not to hijack the thread but.

I know there are a few build hidden in some threads but some users may have a hard time finding the latest one.
I know from my testing the 64bit images have better latency with my setup.

Will there be a 64bit image added?

At this link you can find the 64-bit deb packages for LinuxCNC version 2.8.2 and 2.9.0~pre0

Thank you Andy.
We are also picking up issues now with the RPi freezing.
Will try the 64bit shared below by elovalvo. Hopefully it is resolved.

Mine doesn't freeze with Andy's image. I suspect you have a power supply problem.

So with Elovalvo's image it doesn't freeze, however we cannot get G71 working on the 2.9 pre-release available for the RPis.
We have checked the power and no issue with power. 3A and 5V from the recommended RPi power supply.

G71 not working is almost certainly unrelated to power supply.
How does it not work. Have you tested with known-good sample files?
There should be three files in ~/linuxnc/nc_files/(sample?)/lathe_G7*
