2.9 Master on Debian 11.3 was created by hotporksausage
Hi all,
noob here
I have a fresh install of debian 11.3
What is the current/correct method to install 2.9?
I want to run QtPlasmaC
I don't want to upgrade to Bookworm as I need XRDP
I need a stable distro as it wil be used in production.
I've tried to rtfm but I'm a bit confused about the different methods, buildbot, build from source, use unstable repos and apt install -t, the method on the QtPyVCP site.
Or should I just stick with buster?

Just follow this recipe:
www.qtpyvcp.com/install/bullseye.html
This will install the dependencies qtplasmac needs.
The only issue is with debian 11 you have to compile from source but that super simple if you have a good list of dependencies like above. But I like it.
Debian 12 will install a lot of the dependencies but to upgrade you have to install from source so it is not that much easier than debian 11 as you have to sort out the dependencies required. I have done a video on how to do this.

Thanks Rod, I wasn't sure if QtPyVCP was required.
I appreciate your help and all of your videos.

I do have a problem with building 2.9 on debian 11.3, all tests are PASS and running RIP is doing fine, but after "dpkg-buildpackage -b -uc" there is an error :
man/man9/xhc_hb04_util.9:4: (po4a::man)
This file contains the line '.\" This file was generated with
halcompile.g.'. You should translate the source file, but
continuing anyway.
man/man9/xor2.9:4: (po4a::man)
This file contains the line '.\" This file was generated with
halcompile.g.'. You should translate the source file, but
continuing anyway.
(29146 entries)
(and several above with this message)
Am I doing something wrong / maybe not understand this message??
Thanks , Hans

I suspect it is because of po4a.
it seems that the developers have had to switch po4a version for the upcoming integration / availability as a Debian repository within Debian bookworm.
as such some files are probably not happy as there has been a syntax change.
this change seems to have broken the buildbot process and has or is being fixed at present
eg
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/commit/6f54...881e29eeee1c8faad8a0
basically it is work in progress at present, unless you want to help out and can post some fixes to be added to GitHub?

Is the buildbot broken or is it just debian 11?
Can I use Mint 20 and get updates properly without issues?

Master does not work on Mint 20, and there is no easy way of making it work.
I tried, several times, with 20.1, 20.2, 20.3

ok, I tried to build the deps but get doc errors. What is the switch to not build the docs? --nodocs ?
